05:49 pm - Save Pippen!
At one time or another, I've found myself in a pickle when it came to vet bills. This is a friend who is trying to save her dog. Even $5 will help. Please at least take a look at the website.

01:29 pm - Doggie distraction
In case you need some distraction in your day, check out my neighbor's dog, Charles, who sings!
Charles recently hurt his knee, and had surgery yesterday. He's doing ok, but will have a long recuperation. His owner posted his singing blog to help raise money for his surgery. If can "tip" Charles for singing, that's great, but even if you can't, its pretty funny anyway.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

08:44 pm - Because I really should post at least 2x per year.
My tattoo! 3 years in the process, and multiple re-draws, including one on the spot thanks (THANK YOU!) to my friend Lee. Mikal Gilmore @ Infinity Tattoo was the artist.
Lee and Annaliese came to supply moral support. It hurt a bit, maybe a bit more than I remember - there was some yelping and teeth gritting moments. In retrospect, I should have done more research on how lower legs heal compared to other body parts. But I am very, very happy with the results.
The ginkgo has a lot of meaning for me; Darwin called the ginkgo tree a "living fossil". In mythology it is "the tree of life", symbolic of love. It is said the ginkgo displayed the strongest recuperative powers following the bombing of Hiroshima. Hindu scripture describes a celestial tree having its roots in heaven and its branches in the underworld that unites and connects beings of all kind. The leaves are in the Art Nouveau style, a period where ginkgo motif was often used, as well as in Arts and Crafts era (my fave!).
I was looking for something to symbolize the hope, longevity and recuperation of my heart after losing 3 important women in my life in one year: my mother, my grandmother and my aunt. Even though at least one of those would not have liked the tattoo, the process has brought me peace and closure. I love looking at it. It means so many things to me, even more than I've discussed above.

08:25 am - Naked Ride?
Ok, this is really, really odd (more strange than me posting twice in one day) but is anyone on my friends list doing the Naked Ride at midnight tonight? I, uh, am *considering* it.
08:04 am - Karma's a bitch
Every once in awhile, you actually get to see someone get their comeuppance.
About 12-15 years ago, during my lifeguard years, I worked with a man who I would describe as the most misogynistic person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. The sexual harassment in that job rivaled the harassment I faced in the military, and that's saying something.
Yesterday, this fine fellow was arrested for "habitually groping young swimmers at (his swim) club practice and swim meets."
I hope the charges stick. He's been at it way too long. Fucker.
Update 4/08: he was acquitted in one county, one more trial to go. At the very least, I hope it cost him a lot of money in attorney fees. And he's still a fucker.

the Cutting Edge
(52% dark, 46% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | DARK
Your humor's mostly innocent and off-the-cuff, but somehow there's something slightly menacing about you. Part of your humor is making people a little uncomfortable, even if the things you say aren't themselves confrontational. You probably have a very dry delivery, or are seriously over-the-top.
Your type is the most likely to appreciate a good insult and/or broken bone and/or very very fat person dancing.

Oh noes. Its true, I'm doing it. All the cool kids did it last year, so I'm doing it this year. I figure that writing 50K words won't be too much of a problem, but letting anyone read this schlock will be a Big Deal. And if I can pass my LCSW exam and write a novel in a month, well, I'll be a really happy camper. Wish me luck!
